Some History

Port Moody was originally inhabited by the Squamish and Musqueam Nations, who utilized the area's rich natural resources for fishing, hunting, and gathering shellfish. European settlement began around 1800, with significant development following the construction of North Road by the Royal Engineers in 1859. The city's major growth occurred in 1886 when it became the original Pacific terminus of the transcontinental railroad. This pivotal development spurred rapid expansion and industrial activity.
